Agnes Copeland's Bio

I've always been drawn to color and whimsy in art. Color plays an important part in my paintings, but also value, shapes lines and calligraphy are used to interpret subject matter. I also like to add collage for texture and interest.

I like paintings that involve me emotionally when I view them. When I look at Winslow Homer's watercolors, I feel the hot Caribbean sun and can smell the sea. John Marin's lineal work in his cityscapes is energetic and exciting, like the city. To me, painting communicates feeling. After being overwhelmed by the color in the Caribbean during a vacation in 1983 I came home and started painting watercolors.

I have been formally trained as an artist and show my work throughout the western United States.
